Northeastern League Announces Post Season Honors
Seven Bandits were recognized for the 2009 accomplishments on the field as the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League announced its 2009 Post Season Honors.
Max Stepan; catcher (.410 avg, 2 HR, league leading 32 RBI), and Brock Wetenkamp; infield (.349 avg. 2HR 30 runs scored), each garnered First Team Awards. Josh Krowiorz;designated hitter (.299 avg, 1 HR), Sam Spurney (.284 avg, 2 HR; outfield (.284 avg, 2 HR) and Doug Bloom; infield (.341 avg, 27 runs scored, 26 walks), earned Second Team Honors. TC Lee; outfield (.290 avg, 2 HR) and Greg Herr; pitcher (4-1 with 3.09 ERA) earned Honorable Mention for the 2009 season.
Rounding out the First Team were infielders Mac Shuman of Menasha, Ryan Schmitz of Sheboygan and Jeff Riddle of De Pere. The First Team outfielders were John Hendrick of Appleton, Tim Ryan of Menasha and Tim Patzman of Sheboygan. First Team DH was Doug Coe of Green Bay. First Team Utility Player was Rob Coe of Green Bay. First Team pitchers were John Hendrick of Appleton and Jason Wershke and Brad Schreiber of Menasha.
Rounding out the Second Team were infielders Kyle Van Abel of Appleton, Ben Ihde of Menash and Max Shilter of Sheboygan. Second Team outfielders were Ryan Hinske of Menasha and Kreston Albright of Sheboygan. Second Team pitchers were Mike Lloyd of Menasha, Mitchell Gardner of Sheboygan and Jon Novitski of Green Bay. Doug Coe was the Second Team catcher and Kyle Thomas was the second team Utility player.
Other players receiving Honorable Mention were catchers Noah Depies of Sheboygan and Jon Brunette of DePere; outfielders Bubba Hunter of Appleton, David Novak of Sheboygan, Chris Laux of Green Bay and Joe Faulds of De Pere and Pitchers Frank Forseth of Appleton and Rob Coe of Green Bay.
The 2009 League Most Valuable Player was John Hendrick of the Appleton Legends who batted .427 and was 5-1 on the mound with a 1.47 ERA. Jason Werschke of the Menasa Macs was named Most Value Pitcher. Menasha's Brad Schreiber won the Rookie of the Year Award and Green Bay's Doug Coe won the top hitter award with a .457 league average.
The Bandits finished the 2009 regular season tied for second place with the Menasha Macs, posting a 17-7 record before being eliminated in the playoffs by Menasha, the eventual League Champion.
In other league news, Marinette and Oshkosh are both considering entering the NEWBL as the league considers a two or three division format. The 2010 All-Star Game will be held in Sheboygan on July 9th and will once again pit the NEWBL All Stars against the Frank Landsdorff League of Southeastern Wisconsin All-Stars.
